THE WEBSITE WORKSHOP

Write useful page titles and descriptions

Titles and descriptions should describe the actual page. They are not a place to paste a list of every service and town you would like to rank for.

1. Choose one page purpose

Write down what the visitor should learn or do. Make the title specific enough to distinguish this page from the rest of the site.

2. Write the visible content first

The main heading and opening paragraph should support the same purpose. A good title cannot repair a page that never explains its offer.

3. Add a useful description

Summarise the value of the page in natural language. Search engines can choose different result text, so avoid treating a fixed character count as a guarantee.

4. Review duplicates

Use distinct titles and descriptions for pages with genuinely different purposes. Consolidate unnecessary duplicates rather than dressing them in slightly different keywords.

When to ask for help

Stop if the change affects a critical workflow, requires access you do not have or produces a result you cannot explain. Keep the original evidence and a restorable backup. A short, well-defined repair request is easier to review than a series of speculative changes.

Related repair: request a scope review. Choose your platform on the request form; availability and price are confirmed before payment.
